It may only be mid-November, but research shows that one in two Australians have already started their Christmas shopping.

The data, courtesy of finder.com.au, shows that 47 per cent of Aussies have already hit up the shops.

However, this means that 4.3 million are waiting for December before starting their Christmas shopping - meaning that the stores are going to be chaotic the closer we get to December.

"There are plenty of sales in November for shoppers to take advantage of from Black Friday deals on November 24, to Cyber Monday a few days afterwards," finder.com.au money expert Bessie Hassan said.

"Not only does it give you more time to plan your Christmas gift, but is also means you'll be spending less with stores on sale.

"By the first week of December, the Christmas crowds will be out in full force, so if you don't like queues, it might be a good idea to start shopping earlier.

"Beat the crowds and shop from the comfort of your own couch while taking advantage of online sales and coupon codes."
