You'll Be Getting Missing Kid Alerts On Your Facebook

How you could help find them

Facebook and Australian Police are joining forces in a new measure to help find missing children, using the Amber Alert system.

From today, police in all states and territories will supply information about potential abductions to the social media giant in time-critical search situations.

Child abduction alerts will start strategically popping up in the Facebook feeds of users within a 160 kilometre radius of where the child was last seen.

The post will show up as the second item in the news feed and remain there for 24 hours, unless the child is located.

We'll be allowed to share the post, but there will not be an option to comment.

Facebook says it noticed users turning online in times of crisis to connect with friends and family and believes it's merely facilitating the process.
