It'll be slow going on two of the Hunter's worst bottlenecks, with 40km/h speed limits in place through Hexham and Kooragang.
Survey work has started today on a 6km stretch of the Pacific Highway at Hexham, which means a lower speed limit and possible lane closures.
It's believed it should be finished by early June, if all goes to plan.
Asphalting, line marking and installing barriers is also starting today on Tourle Street and Cormorant Road at Kooragang.
Work's expected to be finished there in about two months, while there could be occasional weekend and night work.
