A driver has destroyed his car while performing a burnout in the Hunter Economic Zone in Pelaw Main.
Highway Patrol officers discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames in the HEZ after responding to reports of dangerous driving yesterday afternoon.
The car burnt to the ground before firefighters arrived.
Police claim the 26-year-old allegedly behind the wheel at the time admitted to performing a burnout for at least a minute before his tyres blew out.
It's believed the car's fuel tank then ruptured, and sparks coming off the steel rims ignited the petrol inside before the car went up in flames.
The Wallsend man has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner and will face Kurri Kurri Local Court on June 8, 2017.
