Govt MP Defends Police Response To Singleton Carnage

The state government's only Hunter MP has hit back at criticism leveled against the police response to Wednesday's truck crash in Singleton.

Some members of the community have slammed police for waiting until the stolen semi-trailer reached Singleton, before using road spikes in an attempt to stop the rig.

They believe more should've been done to stop the truck, after it was taken from a servo more than 100kms away at Murrurundi.

Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen believes officers did the right thing.

"I've got nothing but absolute praise for our local police. They did the best job they possibly could. They arrested the man as soon as they could. No one else is responsible (for the crash)," he said.

A critical incident investigation is being carried out by Port Stephens Local Area command.
