A new park and ride service from Broadmeadow to Newcastle is expected to save some commuters up to $30 a week in parking fees.
Newcastle City Council and the state government are announcing a 12-month trial aimed at freeing up parking spaces in the CBD, taking about 300 cars out of the city each weekday.
From Monday we'll be able to park at McDonald Jones Stadium and jump on shuttle buses leaving every 15 minutes between 6:30am and 8:30am in the morning and returning from 4:30 and 6:00pm in the afternoon.
There'll be four stops throughout the city at Customs House, Civic, Marketown, and the intersection of Perkins and King Streets.
The buses will be free to use until January 29, when passengers will need to pay a daily fee of $2.
Commuters need to register to use the service at newcastle.nsw.gov.au or by calling council on 4974 2000.
