More "Off-Leash" Dog Areas For Newcastle

Newcastle City Council is responding to the calls of dog owners for more "off-leash" areas around the city.

Council voted at last night's meeting to investigate creating new dedicated dog areas with Lambton Park at the top of the list, along with sites at Stockton, Waratah, Merewether, Wickham and Wallsend.

Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen said he's more than happy to support the proposal of new off-leash dog areas, adding dog parks have received more petition signatures than any other cause in the past few years.

"Broadly, there'll be one located in each ward of the city, to ensure everyone has somewhere of high quality to go with their dogs and socialise," he said.

The parks will have the proper infrastructure to keep dogs and their owners happy, like good paths, bubblers, plenty of seating and dog exercise equipment as seen at Islington Park.

At this stage four new parks are planned to be opened by July next year.
