Plans to build a new hotel in the Honeysuckle precinct have taken the next step.
The development application for the Little National Hotel have been lodged today.
The blueprints include a 147-room hotel and close to 60 residential apartments, as well as 100 m2 of retail space on the ground floor.
Around 60 jobs will be created during the $40.5 million dollar project.
Hunter Development Corporation Acting Chief Executive Valentina Misevska says construction could begin as early as mid-2018 if everything goes to plan.
"We're building a connected city with better transport options and opportunities for people to stay, live and play in the heart of Newcastle."
"The location of this hotel - right on the doorstep of the interchange and the waterfront precinct in Honeysuckle really places it in a unique position."
