A police officer has been bitten on the leg while trying to make an arrest at Merewether last night.
The senior constable came under attack as officers went to apprehend two men, who had earlier been kicked out of the Prince of Wales hotel for starting fights with patrons.
The pair - aged 52 and 23 - are facing several charges.
The younger man, who's accused of biting the officer, was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.
The older man will front court next month.
The injured officer was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment on an injured thumb and elbow.
