The Barrington Tops might get its first dusting of snow for the year, but don't expect a snowy winter wonderland.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting snow Wednesday morning thanks to a low pressure system off the coast.
There'll be a top temperature of just 6 degrees while it'll also be very windy.
"If any snow falls, it'll be a light dusting. It's likely to be followed by rain which will just turn (the snow) into slush," NPWS spokesperson Lawrence Orel said.
"That also has the affect of making the roads very slippery and icy."
Anyone planning to head to the Barrington Tops is urged to extreme take and read this advice.
The rest of the Hunter can expect a cold, wet and windy day, with Newcastle to receive up to 20 mm of rain.
