Friends of the Lake Macquarie man who died in yesterday's paragliding accident in Newcastle say he was experienced at the sport, with several hours of flying time under his belt.
62-year-old Peter Mahony was only in the air for 10 minutes when he lost control and crashed into the cliff at Shepherd's Hill.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics sadly he couldn't be revived.
It's still unclear what caused the accident, with an investigation to examine his flying gear along with weather conditions.
Witnesses say he may have stalled in the wind and got too close to the cliff.
Peter's son Benjamin has paid tribute to his father on Facebook.
"Rest in peace dad, just one flight too many, you were awesome, I hope I can be half the dad you were and are in my memories. You were so generous with your time, so sad it had to end so suddenly. We will look after mum for you."
