Two men have died in a horror crash at Salamander Bay, with alcohol and speed believed to be factors.
A Mazda 3 left Soldiers Point Road near George Road and slammed into a tree just before 1am this morning.
Two of the passengers died, while the 30 year old male driver suffered serious injuries.
He remains in a serious condition in John Hunter Hospital. He'd allegedly been drinking.
A third male passenger escaped with minor injuries.
"We're sending that message out constantly in relation to driving to the speed limit, not drink driving and driving to the conditions, (however) we continue to see tragedies like last night," Detective Superintendent Craig Jackson said.
Police say the four men are all from Queensland and were working on a local construction site.
