Veteran surf lifesavers say it's rare to see so many sharks around Fingal Bay at the moment.

The beach has been closed for the past few days due to sightings of grey nurse sharks close to shore.

"It is quite unusual for that section of beach," Hunter Surf Lifesaving president Henry Scruton said.

"A lot of the mullet are coming through the area. They don't normally stop off around Fingal."

A surf lifesaver who's been at the Fingal Beach SLSC for more than 20 years has told KOFM he's never seen anything like it.

The video below was taken by Johnny Marco about three metres from shore at Fingal Beach on Easter Sunday, showing six sharks having a feast on mullet.
