Wet And Windy Long Weekend For The Hunter

Rain's forecast until mid next week

Wet And Windy Long Weekend For The Hunter

Bad news for anyone hoping to enjoy the outdoors on the Queen's Birthday long weekend, with rain on the cards until at least next Tuesday.

The Hunter copped an absolute drenching on Wednesday morning due to a low pressure system making its way up the coast, with Blacksmiths alone picking up more than 70ml.

The Weather Bureau is forecasting the showers to hover on the coast for a week or so, while strong winds are also tipped to blow across the region.

Friday is forecast to be very wet, with the intensity of the showers to decrease as the weekend progresses.

"The wind and rain will ease by Sunday," said Weatherzone's Kim Westcott. "But the rain will hang around the coast at least until mid next week."

The showers follow a light dusting of snow which covered the Barrington Tops on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, however Kim believes it's unlikely we'll be graced with a winter wonderland any time soon.

"From now until the rest of the week we're looking at just rain," she said. "There's no cold air to go with it, so the chance of getting any snow looks decreased."
