Windale House Fire 'Deliberately Lit'

It suffered major damage

Police say a fire which severely damaged a housing commission home in Windale overnight appears to have been deliberately lit.

Firefighters were called to South Street at around 11:00pm, after neighbours noticed smoke coming from the house.

No one was inside at the time.

Police say the tenant is currently in jail.

Firefighters were also called to Hamilton South, following a fire on a unit balcony in Fowler Street at 1:30am this morning.

The fire started after a lit mosquito coil ignited some plywood.
