Young Man Critical After Bashing Outside Marketown

He was knocked unconscious..

A young man is fighting for life after a serious bashing outside Newcastle's Marketown Shopping Centre.

The 21 year old was involved in an altercation with a group of people in the King Street McDonalds carpark at around 3am.

Police say they then had a second run in outside Marketown near the pedestrian crossing.

The man was punched three times in the head.

The third blow knocked him unconscious, causing him to hit his head on the ground.

He was rushed to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police are asking for the offender and witnesses to hand themselves in.

"We have very clear CCTV footage of the incident. It's not going to be too difficult to identify those involved, so we urge them to present themselves to Newcastle Police Station," Detective Chief Inspector Peter Mahon said.
