Huawei Gets Major Train Contract

Chinese-owned telecommunications giant Huawei will supply Perth's rail network with a 4G communications system, in a landmark deal.

The deal, worth $136 million, has been inked after consultations with security agencies.

An announcement from Huawei stated, the Radio Systems Replacement project will deliver a total end-to-end digital radio solution across the PTA’s 180km electrified rail network and the new Forrestfield Airport Link twin tunnels.

Huawei Australia Chairman, John Lord said the Perth Transport Authority contract reinforced Huawei’s strong long-term investment focus in the Australian market.

“We are modernising the Australian transportation sector through digital technologies developed for the global market,” Mr Lord said.

“We have been providing similar communications technology services to Sydney Trains and Ambulance NSW safely and securely for nearly a decade."

More than 50 WA-based staff, including local subcontractors, will be employed during the forty-month design and build period.
