State Braces For Catastrophic Fire Conditions

Weather Bureau warning

State Braces For Catastrophic Fire Conditions Forecast thunderstorms pose "catastrophic fire risk" in the Gascoyne, Mid West, Central Wheatbelt and Goldfields.

Residents in parts of the State are being warned to brace for fires as the Weather Bureau issues a warning that forecast thunderstorms could pose a "catastrophic fire risk" in several regions.

The Bureau's Neil Bennett said fires could easily be sparked by lightning, while the combination of high temperatures and strong winds could make them near impossible to contain.

"Those that live in bush fire prone areas need to make sure they've done preparations with fires likely to occur anytime from here on in,"

- Neil Bennett

The developing weather system is expected to affect the Southern Gascoyne, South West Land Division and Goldfields, while Perth can expect showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Anyone in affected areas is urged to take note of emergency warnings across the day.
