Due to the dissatisfaction of the community on how ornaments were being removed from grave sites at Griffith Cemetery, a Cemetery Working Group was formed to review the current guidelines and form a new set that would be more realistic for all affected parties.
At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held 26 September 2017, it was resolved that draft amendments to the Cemetery Management Plan (Section 5) in relation to the placement of ornaments in the Lawn section of the Griffith Cemetery be placed on public exhibition for 28 days. Council is required to notify the public and provide the opportunity for submissions regarding this policy.
The draft amendments to the Cemetery Management Plan may be viewed at the Council Chambers, 1 Benerembah Street Griffith, the Griffith City Library and on Council’s website at griffith.nsw.gov.au.
Anyone wishing to make comment on the Cemetery Management Plan can do so in writing addressed to the General Manager, Griffith City Council. Comments or submissions will be received up to 4 pm, Friday 10 November 2017.
