What You Can Expect From Griffith Base Hospitals Million Dollar Makeover

Early site works are progressing on the $35 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment with delivery this week of a temporary modular building to house the long awaited Renal Dialysis Unit.

The new unit will see the new service expand from seven to 10 chairs as well as two additional home training chairs.

But they'll be several months of refurbishment ahead to enlarge the windows and landscaping of the temporary building before it opens to the public.

“This temporary building will provide increased renal capacity to Griffith and surrounding communities during the delivery of the redevelopment.”

- Health Infrastructure Senior Project Director Amanda Bock

The new service is long overdue with the current unit reaching capacity, now running two shifts every day, seven days a week.

"The temporary building will extend the number of chairs as well as provide new hemodialysis training with patients being able to stay in Griffith to learn how to self-dialyze.”

- GBH General Manager Dr Elizabeth Harford

While stage 1 of the Griffith Hospital redevelopment is underway, opportunities to have your say on the master plan of the development will be announced in the coming months.
