The City of Wagga released a statement today announcing that following discussions today the Mayor, Cr Greg Conkey, and the Deputy Mayor Cr Dallas Tout, have accepted an offer from the General Manager of the City of Wagga, Alan Eldridge, to step aside until March 31, 2017.

This will allow time for an independent investigation, undertaken by an investigator appointed by the Council's solicitors, into the recently made allegations of a breach of the General Manager’s pecuniary interest obligations.

Cr Conkey specifically acknowledged the General Manager’s voluntary decision to step aside so that the Council is not damaged by these controversial claims.

Riverina Regional Library Executive Director, Robert Knight, will be acting General Manager until 31 March.

The General Manager has stated that he "wasn't aware"  until recently that his son has a business relationship with one of the landholders involved in an application to rezone farmland at Gumly for housing lots.
