There’s more certainty today for 2 million people living in the Murray Darling Basin, after the Senate officially voted to deliver the Basin Plan.

The vote upheld the Sustainable Diversion Limit adjustment mechanism, and succeeded thanks to a bipartisan agreement between the government and opposition, which defeated the Greens’ attempt to block it.

It means basin communities get to keep an additional 605 gigalitres of water, without sacrificing any of the Plan’s environmental benefits.
