A development application for a $164 million solar farm at Bomen has been given the green light by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The proposal from Renew Estate is for a 100 megwatt solar farm, capable of powering more than 30,000 homes, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s also set to bring an economic boost, creating around 200 jobs during construction.

Work is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of next year.

There were nine objections to the proposal from the community, raising concerns about the visual impacts and land use compatibility, however, the Department decided those had been addressed, and the project is in the public interest.
