The body representing Riverina farmers is calling for calm on the Murray Darling Basin Plan, saying while illegal water take should not be condoned, until the claims of theft are properly investigated, they remain only allegations.

She’s also welcomed the appointment of Ken Matthews to lead an independent examination of the government’s conduct in relation to the issues raised in recent media reports.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has already sought the agreement of Basin State Ministers for the MDBA to conduct a Basin-Wide Compliance Review.
