Bus fares in regional NSW are set to be dramatically reduced, following recommendations made by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.

Minister For Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance says prices will be reduced by almost 30 percent on average, to bring prices into line with customers’ expectations.

IPART’s review of regional bus fares found that currently, fares are higher than what customers are willing to pay, which is resulting in lower patronage on regional services.

A new fare structure is set to be introduced on March 5.
