Council calls for patience

Residents in Cootamundra have been reassured their town water is safe to drink despite the colour, and that Council is flushing the mains regularly to remove the discoloured water from the system.

Deputy General Manager Phil McMurray says the water is tested weekly at Government analytical laboratory, and it meets the health requirements for drinking water.

A project to replace the town’s 60-year-old water mains is currently underway, which will eliminate the primary cause of discoloured water, and reduce water main failures.

The current increase in reports of discoloured water has been put down to an increase in demand pushing more water through the system.
