There are unconfirmed reports that a sheep died of thirst at the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre, and many others were severely dehydrated, after they were left in a pen in extreme heat late last week.

Council and the RSPCA are looking into the concerning incident, with a member of the public discovering the sheep there on Saturday.

Staff attended and moved the sheep to appropriate yards with water and feed to recover.

It's not yet known who is responsible for leaving them there.
