Council Says Yes to Bin Changes, No to Gurwood Street Group Home

Wagga City Council has given the green light to its controversial changes to kerbside garbage collection, with the new food organics and green garden organics collection service to start from April next year.

Council resolved at last night's meeting to enter into a minimum seven year contact with JJ Richards and Sons to collect the bins, Kurrajong Recyclers will continue to process recyclable material, and negotiations continue on a tender for the food and garden organics material.

Meantime, Council voted down another controversial proposal, refusing a development application for a transitional group home rehabilitation facility on Gurwood Street, the reason being that it's not in keeping with the amenity of the area.

In another decision made last night, Council approved a proposal to provide $45,000 in financial assistance to a bid from Thomas Brothers Group to host New Year's Eve fireworks at Lake Albert.
