Paramedics are putting out a call to local motorists to slow down and stay alert on the roads, following a spike in the number of call-outs to car accidents involving animals, especially kangaroos.

Inspector Rhys Dive says the dry weather and warmer temperatures are seeing wildlife searching for food on the roadsides.

Since the first of August, paramedics have been called to more than 38 collisions involving animals, in areas including Narrandera, Beckom and Binalong.
