The Murray Darling Basin Authority is predicting a challenging water year in 2018-19, saying water managers will need to be prepared to change the focus of delivering water for the environment.

Dry to very dry conditions are expected across most catchments, with Executive Director of Environmental Management, Carl Binning, saying water managers in the Basin will continue to build on the watering priorities delivered last year.

Mr Binning says wetlands in the Murrumbidgee have been reconnected to the river off the back of the very wet conditions in 2016, and we saw great outcomes from planned watering events.

While the focus will be similar to last year, the MDBA’s goals in different catchments will need to respond to whether it’s dry or wet over the coming season.
