Wagga and Gundagai residents may have felt a bit of a tremor this morning, with Geoscience Australia reporting a magnitude 3.1 earthquake.

It happened at 5.20am Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time.

Seismologist Dan Jackson says while a 3.1 is considered quite small, and not enough to warrant an earthquake alert, quakes aren't uncommon here.

We're part of the third most active earthquake zone in Australia.

Mr Jackson says the size of this morning's quake could be likened to a large truck driving past your house.
