'Wasn't Aware' Of Son's Connection

Wagga City Council General Manager Alan Eldridge is again on the defence, this time speaking out to address allegations that he failed to declare a pecuniary interest in a planning proposal.

The proposal in question reportedly concerns an application to rezone farmland at Gumly for housing lots, Mr Eldridge saying he was not aware until recently that his son has a business relationship with one of the landholders involved.

He says once he became aware, he declared the pecuniary interest, and will not be present during any internal discussions on the proposal.

Mr Eldridge added the Local Government Act makes it clear that there has been no breach of the rules, because he had no pecuniary interest in the matter until he became aware of his son’s involvement.

A second statement released just this morning has labelled information published on a Wagga Ratepayers social media page, and by another local media outlet, as incorrect.

Mr Eldridge says the matter has been forwarded to Council's lawyers.
