Murray Darling Association National President David Thurley and Member for Farrer Sussan Ley have met to discuss their opposing reactions to the Senate’s vote to disallow the Northern Basin Amendment.

Both staunchly supported the amendment, which would have reduced the water recovery target in the Northern Basin from 390 to 320 gigalitres.

They reacted differently though, Ms Ley urged the NSW Government to walk away from the Basin Plan, while Mr Thurley and the MDA councils, called on all governments to stay the course and agree on a way forward.

Cr Thurley says all 13 local governments in the electorate of Farrer, from Wentworth in the west to Greater Hume in the East, are members of the MDA, and their communities have already given too much and come too far to walk away from the Plan now.
