Bushfire Preparation Vital

Firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service Riverina zone are encouraging local property owners to create and maintain fire breaks on their properties, to protect their own assets from bush fires, ahead of summer.

Operational Officer Bradley Stewart says the so-called Asset Protection Zones should be maintained all year round, as they’re a critical part of property preparation, and can slow or even stop a fire from reaching a home, machinery shed, crop, or other important asset.

He says the most obvious fire protection measure is to plough a wide fire break around a home, and keep it clear of long grass and low tree branches.
