With Winter officially upon us, hospitals across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District have boosted staff numbers and put additional measures in place to meet demand over the busy period.

Chief Executive Jill Ludford says more than 10 full-time equivalent staff have been recruited at Wagga Base Hospital over the past month, and they have the capacity to increase staffing further if required.

To help take the pressure off the emergency department, and provide more appropriate services for non-emergency patients, the District has also provided more appointments for Hospital in the Home in Griffith and Wagga.

The state government is also spending almost 23 million dollars on state wide immunisation programs in the current financial year, including 3.5 million to provide free flu shots to children under 5.
