Five of seven local government areas in the Riverina have seen their numbers of homeless people increase, from the 2011 to 2016, according to Census figures from the ABS.

Wagga and Temora were the only two to see a reduction in homelessness, Wagga's number dropped from 154 homeless people to 107, and Temora's from 12 to 3.

Lockhart saw the region's biggest rise, going from no recorded homeless persons in 2011, to 18 in 2016, followed by Narrandera, where the number went from 4 to 20.

The number of homeless people in Junee increased from 10 to 13, while Gundagai's number went from 3 to 16.
