Joe McGirr has been officially sworn in at NSW Parliament as the new Member for Wagga, his family watching on in the chamber as the ceremony wrapped up at around 2.30 yesterday afternoon.

Dr McGirr received applause from both sides of the House after taking the pledge of loyalty and the oath of allegiance, as well as congratulations from the speaker.

Wagga hasn't had a representative in the NSW lower house since the resignation of Daryl Maguire on August 3.
