There isn’t much good news for the Riverina in the latest Seasonal Conditions update from the DPI, showing while we did receive some rainfall over June, it wasn’t enough to lift our drought status.

While the rainfall did result in some pasture growth and provided an opportunity for late sowing in the Eastern and Southern Riverina, soil moisture remains below average.

The outlook from the Bureau of Meteorology has also predicted the likelihood of drier than normal conditions for much of the state from July through to September.

The DPI has also employed a new-look reporting format based on feedback from farmers, to better describe conditions being felt on the ground, it’s classified most of the Eastern Riverina as Drought Affected, while the Western Riverina is in Drought.

It's just one step below the highest level, Intense Drought.
