The expansion of the Junee Correctional Centre is on track, with Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke saying maximum security inmates are due to start arriving early next year.

Dozens of construction workers have stepped up the pace of the build, pouring slabs and erecting structures for the 480-bed expansion.

Work began last April, with new perimeter fencing, temporary admin blocks, and the installation of modular cells, which are built by inmates.

Ms Cooke says a larger prison means up to an additional 130 jobs, those wages also set to bring flow-on effects for the community in terms of goods and services.
