A national outbreak of listeria has reportedly been traced back to rockmelons from a farm in Nericon, with 10 elderly people across three states affected so far.

The company has since ceased production, with Riverina residents who've recently bought rockmelon are being advised to throw it away.

The NSW Food Authority has warned pregnant woman, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable to listeriosis.

Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea and sometimes diarrhoea, and can appear within a few days or even up to six weeks after consuming contaminated produce.
