A Junee firefighter will today receive a bravery award for his selfless actions, rescuing a distressed swimmer while on honeymoon on the far north coast.

Retained firefighter Samuel Lawson was on his honeymoon at Kingscliff early last year when he battled a severe rip to rescue a man, he then swam out again to help two others who had attempted to help the distressed man, only to run into trouble themselves.

It’s not the first time Mr. Lawson has been recognised for bravery, having received a High Commendation from the Royal Lifesaving Society of NSW earlier this year.

Two other local firefighters will also be honoured for their long service today, recently-retired Captain Robert Duncan for 45 years, and Retained Firefighter Simon Crowder for ten years.
