Wagga MP Daryl Maguire and Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke have both welcomed the state government’s new Road Safety Plan, introducing a range of measures aimed at reducing the road toll, which saw 392 people lose their lives last year.

The new measures include an expansion of the mandatory alcohol interlock program to include all mid-range drink driving offenders, on the spot fines and license suspensions for low range drink driving offences and allowing the use of cameras to enforce mobile phone offences.

Another 11 heavy vehicle average speed camera locations will also be set up, and an additional $125 million will be injected into the Saving Lives on Country Roads program.
