Organisers, Council Blaming Each Other

A war of words has erupted between Wagga City Council and the organisers of the 2017 Wagga Wagga Masters Games, after the event was cancelled at late notice.

It’s believed between 1400 and 1600 competitors had registered for the Games, to be held from Friday October 6 to Sunday October 8, many having paid registration fees, and booked travel and accommodation.

In a statement posted on the games’ Facebook page, organisers blamed Council for failing to follow through on promises, also blaming sponsors for not coming through with payments, and sporting groups for using the event to gauge interest, then pulling out to plan their own tournaments.

Council says it made every effort to contact the organiser, but due to the lack of response, was left with no choice but to release the venue bookings.

According to Council, the organiser was advised of this on August 29.
