Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has today issued an apology following the resurfacing of an editorial he penned for a local newspaper.

Several of the comments made in the 1993 editorial were labelled homophobic,  including “Unfortunately gays are here and if the disease their unnatural acts helped spread doesn’t wipe out humanity, they’re here to stay.”

The full statement is below with an appeal to all Australians to show respect to each other and embrace the differences that make us unique.

Mr McCormack goes on to say that he will respect the will of the people and vote accordingly in parliament following the upcoming postal plebiscite.
