An alert has been issued to all Murrumbidgee Local Health District communities, asking anyone who was in the Deniliquin CBD on March 9, to be alert for symptoms of measles.

A person who contracted the diseases overseas visited the town while still infectious.

Director of Public Health, Tracey Oakman says symptoms of measles include fever, sore eyes and a cough, followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash spreading from the head and neck to the rest of the body.

Symptoms can appear up to 18 days after exposure, which means we should be alert for symptoms up until April 2.

Measles is highly infectious in those who haven’t been immunised, and those infected should not go to school, work, or out in public.
