Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has officially launched a $1.8 million program to support pregnant women and new mothers living in the Murrumbidgee region, who are experiencing alcohol or other drug disorders.

The Women's Wellness Recovery Program will provide tailored specialist treatment and practical support as early as possible, to improve the health and well-being of women and their children.

The program is being delivered under the Federal Government's National Ice Action Strategy, and will start off in Wagga, then once it's established, it will roll out to Griffith, Young and Deniliquin.

Participation in the program is voluntary and free, with the outpatient setting providing support within and from the community, participants can self-refer, or be referred by a doctor.
