Federal Government Awards $223M Contract

Kapooka will recieve a new satellite communications ground station, along with an integrated network management system, with a $223 million dollar Federal Government contract awarded to Northrop Grumann Australia.

The contractors will acquire, construct and support the new satellite ground station, with Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne saying, subject to approval from the Parliamentary Works Committee, Hansen and Yuncken will start construction later this year.

The project is also set to bring economic benefits to the wider region, with building materials to be sourced locally during the construction phase.

Minister Pyne satellite ground station will enable deployed forces across the Pacific and Indian Ocean to connect to Defence's strategic information networks back here in Australia.
