The NSW Nurses and Midwives Association has taken aim at Wagga MP Daryl Maguire over comments made to the media during a tour of Wagga Base Hospital.

When the subject of staffing issues raised by local nurses came up, Mr Maguire was quoted as saying “you can’t believe the union as far as you can kick them”.

General Secretary of the Association, Brett Holmes, said nurses and midwives had taken umbrage with the local MP’s comments and agree they are typical of someone out of touch with their community.

They’ve suggested he allocate some time to meet with the local nurses and midwives branch, to get a comprehensive understanding of the issues.
