Work will start this weekend to remove the old Kapooka Bridge across the main rail line in Wagga, but it’s not expected to impact traffic using the Olympic Highway.

Local MP Daryl Maguire says the old bridge was built in 1880, and was replaced in June last year, when the new Kapooka Bridge opened to traffic.

For safety reasons, people are asked not to try and stop to watch its removal.

There will be no viewing platform, and the project site has restricted access, but a live feed will allow locals to watch the demolition from the comfort of their own homes from 8am Saturday and 3am Sunday.

The live feed will be available here.
