Southern Region police have called on road users to share responsibility, following the conclusion of Operation Chrome.

The three-day police operation was aimed at reducing road trauma, running from Friday to Sunday utilising officers from all local police districts, alongside their colleagues from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

Tragically, however, four people lost their lives during the operation in crashes at Jindera, Tumut and Yenda.

Almost 27,000 random breath tests were conducted, with 82 drivers allegedly returning a positive reading, 781 random drug tests were also taken, 53 of those returned a positive result.

Police also stopped 341 drivers for speeding, and 15 for not wearing a seat belt or helmet.
